The competition between 10mm games part five: Future of the game and result

This is the last part of my competition between the games I have decided to compare. Legion Imperialis, Dropzone Commander, Epic Warpath and Epic Armageddon. Let me know what you think..

The Future of the game

Another thing to think of is the possibility for further improving of the game. That means more options, factions and models, campaigns and so on. It becomes important as support and care from the developers are important for us to find new players. But it also contains the potential for expanding with campaigns, missions and hobby articles as well as story.

Here it is hard to argue for Epic Armageddon as it has no official support. But there are 3d models to print on basically all factions . But the lack of official support is problematic - there is no way around it. It do have a impressive amount of players though. Which says a lot on how good the game actually is.

Legion Imperialis have a lot of potential. Orks and Eldar being two interesting ideas and you have several races that were killed of during the Horus Heresy and by the Emperor during the crusades. They can absolutely do something new and also release more campaigns. The problem then is GW. We just don't know what will happen.

Epic Warpath and Dropzone commander are two games still pretty new in the form of companies that will surely continue building on them. TT Combat have announced V3 of Dropzone commander and will somewhat go back to V1 in several areas that I think will improve on the game. Warpath is clearly a game that Mantic is betting on and there are clearly new factions to be released soon with the second wave. A new book with a collection of stories is released and so on.

If you want a game that will have the best development I would say Dropzone commander. Ver 3 feels like it will really push the game forward and I see the potential for new factions as well. Warpath have the best potential in terms of how many new players it can get but I think that if Games Workshop continues Legion Imperialis it might have a issue. I would say Warpath as 2 as I don't think GW will support Legions in a few years.  Epic Armageddon have no official support and it is hard to make it sound good then. So last.

Online presence and army building

Dropzone and Legion have no official army builders to use and so rely on other people's work. And it is whack sometimes. The Dropzone armybook and stuff around is free and available online. I think it hurts Legion not having a sensible free armylist-builder. Mantics Epic Warpath can be found free but feels mainly intended to be bought. They have their app which is quite good but you need to upgrade to get the full army lists' special rules. And I don't like that. The special rules in a army should be written on the army list you create. Epic Armageddon have everything online but have different versions of the armylists. It takes a little sorting to get the head wrapped around it.

I would say that Epic warpath wins here. There is a official support for the app and it makes sense to buy the rules. Second is Epic armageddon which have everything online. Third Dropzone commander that do have a army builder and a all the rules easily available online. Fourth is Legions that have no official app for armylist (and it really should whereas a smaller company like TT can get away with it) and the rules are expensive.

So Epic warpath 1, Armageddon 2, Dropzone 3 and Legions 4.

Final result:

Epic warpath takes the first spot with 22 points. 2 ahead of Epic Armageddon at 24 and followed by Dropzone commander at 25. Last at 37 points is Legion Imperialis.

I think it is farly fair though I believe there will be a very different list for each person between my three top games here. Still I think most people would enjoy all three as well acknowledge that Legion is poor substitute for Epic Armageddon and the rules for Epic Warpath makes much more sense than Legion Imperialis.
